Free lunch in the park

Every summer our city offers free lunch for kids in the park across the street. This became a highlight for Zeke and O (although they didn't always love what they got...). Something about free food got them super excited. This is the strongest proof I have that they have Bixby blood in them.

 

 

 



 

 He actually liked the salad they served. I was shocked. But then, who doesn't like iceberg lettuce drenched in ranch?

 

 



 

Pizza makes this girl happy. 

The chocolate milk was always his favorite. 

 

And the dessert was usually a close second. I'm not sure of the actual nutritious benefits of these meals, but they are free, they require little clean up and they make my kids happy. We will definitely continue the tradition next summer. Oh yes, we will.

Summer journals

A few moms blogged about making journals this summer. I thought it was a great idea. Zeke and Olive were totally into it and it was a fun way to document some of their highlights of the summer (definitely more effective than blogging!).

 

 This is a picture of when Zeke almost got sucked out into the ocean at Newport Beach. Thanks, Papa Dave, for grabbing him just in time!

 

And, of course, O's favorite part was playing with the stamp pad. Messy girl.

Special days to celebrate

Zeke finished up his first year of Cubbies. He sure loves Awana and O can't wait to be a Puggle next year.

 



 

We also celebrated Father's Day with their favorite guy. What a great dad he is!



Lake Tahoe

Here are some highlights from the Bixby family trip to Lake Tahoe (or "Saint Tahoe", which is how the Westra kids refer to it)! We spent lots of time on the water and also ate a lot of yummy food. Auntie Cokes spent a lot of her time giving Olive princess hair. And we took some fun walks through the mountains. It was a great trip!

All Aboard the Choo Choo Train

(Have you heard this unforgettable song by DC and Genevieve? It plays on our Pandora Station. It's been in my head for about 2 months.)

 

A couple of weeks ago we took a super fun train ride to South Pasadena to get some ice cream at Busters. The kids loved it! I took so many pictures. Jeff was a little embarrassed, which was awesome because that doesn't happen often. I rarely do embarrassing things. Can't wait to take another trip soon!
